'Balgay Hill: Morning In Magnolia' is as much a daydream rubric through solitude as it is meditative map. An invite to untold stories and images that take flight in the listener’s mind.
As a companion piece to his new and forthcoming album, composer Andrew Wasylyk has collaborated with director Tommy Perman on an accompanying 35 minute short-film documenting the album's transcendental journey through ambient, library and jazz.
Inspired by the work of filmmaker Margaret Tait and animation pioneer Norman McLaren, the footage, shot in Dundee’s 19th century Balgay Park, experiments with homemade lenses designed by Perman from an array of found and recycled materials, such as leaves, feathers, tissue paper, card, foil, tinsel and onion skins. The results see soft bursts of new colour and elegiac fractures of light beautifully combine in meditative recreation. A comfort to pause, to look up, and to celebrate our human connection with the nature around us, and within us all.
Introduced by Tommy Perman and Andrew Wasylyk.
