Rachel Lightbody is a Scottish vocalist, improviser, and songwriter who has forged a distinctive path through Scotland’s vibrant music scene. Drawing from a wide range of influences, her genre-fluid approach blends jazz, folk, contemporary, and experimental sounds, allowing her to move seamlessly between roles as a lead artist, collaborator, and session vocalist.
Praised by Jazz Journal for performances that “stop you in your tracks”, and recognised by Jazzwise Magazine for the “fragile beauties” of her voice, Rachel is celebrated for her sensitivity, versatility, and expressive range. Winner of Best Vocalist at the Scottish Jazz Awards 2025 and recipient of the Critics Choice Award 2024, Rachel has also received multiple Best Vocalist nominations (2018–2024). Her extensive collaborative work includes projects with Mama Terra, Kris Drever, Alyn Cosker, Siobhan Miller, Tom McGuire & the Brassholes, The Elusive Tree Ensemble, Mezcla, and her vocal trio Little Acres. She continues to explore the possibilities of the voice through a diverse and evolving body of work.
