Jim Burns, director of cult BMX Bandits music documentary Serious Drugs, returns with a glimpse of the greatest rock star you’ve never heard of. Musician, model and rock monster Dave Doughman and his band Swearing At Motorists have a unique reputation on the alternative music scene in Hamburg’s St Pauli. Jim’s film gets to know Doughman, and joins him on the road as he takes his band for a chaotic tour of American venues. From mastering how to drive a forklift truck to Dave’s touching relationship with his son and their passion for football, It’s Not All Rock & Roll evokes the realities of being a musical troubadour in the modern world. The film offers a snapshot of sweaty clubs, crowded floors, spilled drinks and all-out rock majesty, conjured from the most humble of ingredients. Taking Burns on a globetrotting tour to venues in Hamburg and Austin Texas, It’s Not All Rock & Roll is essential viewing for anyone who wants to recapture the guiding force of rock music in their lives.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with Eddie Harrison + Jim Burns.
