Simon Thacker's Ritmata is the Scottish virtuoso guitarist-composer's musical laboratory, devoted to creating new possibilities through his immersion in traditions around the world. Influences from flamenco, India, jazz, Judeo-Spanish music, Native America and the Middle East are distilled into primal yet multi layered soundworlds of "unique genius" (World Music Report, Canada).
This latest incarnation of Ritmata sees Simon unveil a powerful new lineup with three of Scotland's leading improvisers: Pete Johnstone on piano (SNJO), Andrew Robb on bass (Head of Jazz, St Mary's Music School) and drummer Stu Brown (Twisted Toons, GIO).
Simon is a Scottish new Music Award winner and his work with Ritmata has been nominated for the Ivors Composer Awards, the most prestigious composition awards in the UK. The Simon Thacker’s Ritmata 2019 debut album Tàradh (named after a term from Gaelic witchcraft) was universally acclaimed.
Experience the latest thrillingly expansive creations by one of Scotland’s most compelling musical figures and his revelatory quartet.
