ÒRAN ÙR

Isla Scott
Màiri Morrison
Gillebrìde MacMillan
with Pablo Lafuente & Dylan Cairns

Ceòl is Craic presents an evening celebrating contemporary Gaelic songwriting. Bringing together three distinctive voices from a new wave of Gaelic music, Òran Ùr showcases original songs rooted in tradition while exploring new musical territory.

At just nineteen years old, Isla Scott has already emerged as one of the most exciting new artists in Gaelic music. Originally from the Isle of Harris and currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, her original songs and distinctive approach to Gaelic songwriting are generating widespread attention.

Màiri Morrison is an actress, playwright and singer from the Isle of Lewis whose work is deeply shaped by her Gaelic upbringing, language and culture. Her songs and performances combine warmth, character and a strong sense of place.

Gillebrìde MacMillan, from South Uist, is one of the leading contemporary voices in Gaelic song. Drawing on a deep connection to Gaelic language and tradition, his songwriting explores new themes and musical territory.

The trio will be joined by acclaimed Glasgow-based musicians Pablo Lafuente and Dylan Cairns for a special collaborative performance exploring the richness and continuing evolution of Gaelic songwriting.

Tha Ceòl is Craic a’ taisbeanadh oidhche a’ comharrachadh sgrìobhadh òrain Ghàidhlig an latha an-diugh. A’ toirt còmhla trì guthan sònraichte bho ghinealach ùr de cheòl Gàidhlig, tha Òran Ùr a’ taisbeanadh òrain thùsail le freumhan ann an dualchas agus aig an aon àm a’ treabhadh fearann-ciùil ùr. Ged nach eil i ach naoi bliadhna deug, tha Isla Scott mu thràth air cliù a chosnadh mar aon de na luchd-ealain òga as inntinniche ann an ceòl Gàidhlig. ’S ann às na Hearadh a tha i bho thùs agus tha i an-dràsta ag ionnsachadh Ceòl Traidiseanta aig Conservatoire Rìoghail na h-Alba. Tha na h-òrain thùsail, shònraichte aice a’ togail ùidh mhòir. Tha Màiri Nic ’ille Mhoire na bana-chleasaiche, sgrìobhadair-chluichean agus seinneadair à Eilean Leòdhais agus tha a togail Ghàidhlig, a cànan agus a cultar aig cridhe a cuid obrach. Tha blàths, caractar agus dualchas gu follaiseach anns na h-òrain agus na taisbeanaidhean aice. ’S ann à Baile a’ Mhanaich ann an Uibhist a Deas a tha Gillebrìde Mac’Ille Mhaoil agus tha e aithnichte mar aon de phrìomh ghuthan ceòl Gàidhlig an latha an-diugh. Le ceangal domhainn ris a’ Ghàidhlig agus an dualchas, tha an sgrìobhadh òrain aige a’ rannsachadh cuspairean agus saoghal-ciùil ùr. Bidh an triùir còmhla ri fir-ciùil cliùiteach stèidhichte ann an Glaschu, Pablo Lafuente agus Dylan Cairns, airson oidhche shònraichte, cho-obrachail a thaisbeanadh a bhios a’ rannsachadh beairteas agus leasachadh leantainneach ann an sgrìobhadh òrain Ghàidhlig.
