The Lovely Basement + Dewey Lester & the 6:03 (matinee)
Entry Requirements: Suitable for ages 10+ (under 18s must be accompanied)
Post-cool or too old to care? The Lovely Basement say they set out to mix alt-country with the Velvet Underground. They also say they failed, but quite like the result.
Since the release in 2019 of their first album, Just Because You Can, The Lovely Basement have drawn admiring glances from all over the place: “the sweetness of Yo La Tengo and the raggedness of The Pastels”; “not dissimilar to Paisley Underground veterans the Dream Syndicate”; “tossing off songs with the looseness of early Faces”.
Their new album, Lowlands, was picked up by Radio 6’s Gideon Coe, a long-time supporter of the band’s output. Vocals for the album were recorded by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Howe Gelb, Eels) who stumbled across the band playing live locally and stayed!
Musings on sentience, inequality, globalisation, even theology, and the deep need to hunker down with good friends when the world outside gets too much, all find an often wry voice in their lovingly crafted songs.
Looking forward, 2026 sees The Lovely Basement appearing at Wales Goes Pop and a tour of Spain in April, the Athens Underground PopFest in May, and a growing number of dates UK.

Dewey Lester & The 6:03 play music with the vibrancy of the generation of pop lovers. They reference a neat bag of cultural touch-points; Modernist, West Coast, Psychedelic, Freak Beat, Glasgow Underground. Their musical pathway is both previously untrodden and a pilgrimage to the alter of their predecessors. This is music for futures, past and present.
