Jazz at the Glad: Phil Bancroft - Beautiful Storm
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
Scottish Saxophone virtuoso Phil Bancroft has been making waves with a series of critically-acclaimed releases on his artist-led label- www.myriadstreams.com.
One of these features new band, The Beautiful Storm, which breaks new ground in Phil’s rich career, with Indian Tabla demon Gyan Singh and Scottish Guitar alchemist Graeme Stephen.
14 years of study on rhythmic cycles inspired by Indian Classical Music has produced an intoxicating new music, exploring a range of shimmering compositions in a trio of master improvisers. Instilled with a deep understanding of Jazz, Celtic, Western and Indian Classical Music, equal joy is taken in groove and flow, the interplay of metre and cycles, the beauty of melody, the spice of chromaticism, woven into spell-binding musical journeys of rare depth and beauty.
They completed a highly-successful debut tour in March this year, and are now playing in Glasgow for the first time.
‘An arrestingly beautiful set from Phil Bancroft’s Beautiful Storm...” Scottish Jazz Space
'I have fallen in love with this album so much we booked them to play at the Cockpit Theatre, London later this year…’ Jez Nelson Jazz FM
“An Internationally-renowned saxophonist who never rests on his laurels, bringing vitality to what was familiar, making accessible the challenging and free.” Jazzwise
"The use of chromaticism, fixed tonalities and odd and varying metres, as well as some heavier rock sensibilities, gives the set a mesmeric, sometimes trippy feel, an endless continuity of sound that beguiles and entertains.” Jazz Journal
