SO SO SAD EP LAUNCH + JONNI SLATER

So So Sad is the new musical project from Catherine Rudie and Chris Brambley. They will launch their first E.P together, ‘Broken Pieces’, on the 15th June at The Glad Cafe.

Originally from the very opposite ends of Britain — Rudie from remote Sutherland on the North Coast of Scotland and Chris from the lusher (in comparison) South Coast of England, near Southampton — they bring together equally contrasting musical influences, creative approaches and life experiences to create intimate guitar and piano based contemporary songs of beauty and strangeness, suffused with electronic textures and closely woven vocal harmonies.

Chris is a classical guitarist, pianist and contemporary folk songwriter and former member of leading London chamber choir Collegium Musicum of London. His intricate guitar work and slow-moving, harmonically rich arrangements bring a grounding warmth to the duo’s sound.

Rudie was originally a bagpipe player and Gaelic singer, and now plays guitar and creates electronic textures. She is a past recipient of the Scottish Burns Award for songwriting and was named ‘One to Watch’ by BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction in 2019. The same year her debut album ‘The Möbius Kiss’ was released to widespread positive critical attention with radio play on 6MUSIC, BBC Scotland and The Late Junction, BBC Radio 3, amongst many others.

‘A fascinating debut. Voice and folk melodies mesh with electronic sounds, warmly drawing you in.’ — Jude Rogers, The Guardian

‘A message for our times’ — Tom Robinson, BBC 6MUSIC

‘An exquisite debut. A rich and rewarding listening experience’ — Fatea Magazine

JONNI SLATER

Jonni Slater’s music ranges from intimate and heartfelt to uplifting and cinematic. His live show mixes piano, voice and guitar with video projections. Jonni is launching his new single, “Super”, a song about how the real-life version of you doesn’t always match up to the version in your imagination. It’s the first track from forthcoming album “Between the Shadows”, which will be released in September. His last release with Dora Lachaise (“Sign on the Door”) was described as “a memorable slice of class” by The Herald and had airplay on BBC Radio Scotland.
