You are invited to make yourself welcome to this evening of film, music, poetry and song that recognises and celebrates the ongoing resistance to plunder by our visitors from Brazil's Amazon, and the connections that they have weaved with people and their organisations in Scotland over the last four years. There will be the Scotland premier of the film, "The Ailing Forest" that was made by a collective of young, mostly female, Munduruku warriors who travelled across their vast territory of the Tapajos, Amazonia, to document invasion, mining and pollution to their region and the resistance by their autonomous organisations in struggle. The fact that the UK receives illegally mined gold, and that companies based in London are currently expanding mining operations in the Amazon also brings to the gathering representatives from the Kayapo indigenous peoples, and from river communities affected by bauxite and gold mining linked to UK interests. Their spokespeople have often talked about the need for Projects of Life to replace Projects of Death, and hence we are delighted to be joined by musicians, poets and friends travelling from across Scotland, her islands and from further afield, to see what we can do together with the wind.

The event will open with the film “The Ailing Forest”, with an introduction by the young Munduruku film makers, followed by performances of song and word by artists including Alasdair Roberts, Donald Lindsay, Nerea Bello, Shane Connolly, Lucy Searle and friends. Tickets are £10, any further donations to the artists would be greatly appreciated. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. This is a standing event. There will be small number of chairs for those who most need one, please let us know on arrival. Doors open at 6.30 p.m.
