Italian-born Marta Del Grandi is an eclectic singer songwriter gathering influences from near and far to create a unique genre-splicing style, a jazz vocalist originally, now travelling her own unique and unchartered path.

In the not-too-distant past, Marta studied Jazz Vocals at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, won diplomas, dabbled with groups and partnerships, with song structures and wordplay. She visited China, then Nepal where she taught at the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, before returning to Italy where she unpacked the influences and inspirations she’d soaked up.

Re-connecting with old sparring partners and collaborators along the way, she met new like-minded souls and developed a plan that had first been ignited in Kathmandu’s rarefied air where she re-imagined her relationship with music and its with her. From there, songs became soundtracks, patterns emerged, vocals drifted over electronic synths, classical structures and ambient soundwaves ran abreast; strange nuances of texture evolved.

Her vocal style matured; became folky, West Coast, ethereal, pronounced, enveloped, exotic, explorative, here, there, everywhere… a chameleon-like presence counter-balancing her music.

Marta Del Grandi has studied the fine art of songwriting, drawing from the wonderment of life, she weaves stories of marine fossils at the peak of the Himalayas, myths around precious stones and species on the brink of extinction.

Marta Del Grandi returns with Selva, her most intricate and shimmering effort yet, a refined devotional suite of astute pop that flows effortlessly, uniting emotional complexity, divine organic arrangements with a sci-fi finish.

If her debut ‘Until We Fossilize’ showed all the qualities of Marta’s unique approach, tiptoeing between Laurel Canyon dust, Lynchian etherealism and dramatic Morricone scores, Selva delves deeper into the undergrowth, showcasing an ambition to deliver a whole new universe, her own ecosystem, where the strength of her voice alone is the pillar to build on.

“Modern and ancestral at the same time.”

Morricone-esque in structure – with a hint of David Lynch, her music is playful and evocative; she is a rare talent.

Rae Lena writes haunted piano folk music to express the darker parts of the human experience. She weaves stories of the shared emotions we all go through with rawness, honesty and vulnerability. A self-taught pianist, Rae’s style is a mix of repetitive looping chords and soaring vocals. Originally from the Scottish countryside, Rae is now based in Glasgow.
