Celtic Connections: CLR Theory + Nicole Cassandra Smit

The Glad Cafe, Glasgow

Fri, Jan 26, 2024 7:30 PM

SOLD OUT
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only

CLR theory launched their album WAVES (Record of Note, BBC Scotland, Roddy Hart) to a sold out crowd during the opening weekend of Celtic Connections 2023.

They will be bringing their unique brand of folk-pop back to Celtic Connections 2024 show for an anniversary homecoming of their 8 piece band, a celebration of WAVES, and a sharing of their new material rich with vocal harmony, strings and brass.

WAVES was written, home recorded and produced by Gill Higgins (Curlew) and Hannah Jarrett-Scott in their Glasgow Southside tenement flats, with all Queer featured artists.

Their lineup includes vocals and percussion from Nico Denman (Mima Merrow), flugle horn and trumpet from Ali Hendry (Randolph's Leap), cello from Ruth Campbell (Skinny Dipper), and special guest strings with viola from Nichola Bremaneson (Pictish Trail), and violin from Lisa Meech and Eleanor Fulton.

Come and join them for a night of heartfelt song, and let them swaddle you in sound.

To open this special night of celebration, we have special guest Nicole Cassandra Smit, an Edinburgh based singer/songwriter who blends her smokey voice and country ballad lyrics with RnB hooks and soulful harmonies.

A proud Indonesian-Swedish woman with Erb’s palsy, representing the ‘other’ with energetic, emotive and unafraid performances.

Having regular UK shows with Nicole & The Back Up Crew, and previous tours in Europe with her band SMITTEN; in 2022 Nicole started releasing original solo material under her own name.

Her first single as a solo artist - “Strong Woman” - was featured on The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show on 6Music. Her first album “THIRD IN LINE” was released in July 2022 and was awarded Best Swedish Albums of the Summer by Per Sinding Larsen of SVT.

A special performer, not to be missed.
