Fredrik Rasten & Alasdair Roberts + Luke Fowler
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
Fredrik Rasten is a Berlin-based guitarist and composer with a particular interest in the sonic experiences inherent in the tuning system called just intonation. With this point of departure he creates music inspired by minimalism and folk music amongst other things, and in his work he is reaching for an active listening and an intuitive exploration of the complexities of tone and harmony. In addition to solo projects, Rasten both performs and composes as a member of the Berlin-based ensemble Harmonic Space Orchestra and the long-time collaborations Pip and Oker. Fredrik’s recording output has been published on labels such as SOFA, Edition Wandelweiser, Ftarri and INSUB.
Fredrik also plays in the group Völvur who have collaborated with Glasgow-based folk musician Alasdair Roberts in concert as well as on the acclaimed LP The Old Fabled River (Drag City, 2021). Alasdair’s work alternates between his own compositions and interpretations of traditional songs and ballads from Scotland and beyond. He enjoys a wide range of collaborations yet also often works in a solo context, such as on his most recent LP Grief in the Kitchen and Mirth in the Hall. Alasdair will join Fredrik for part of this evening’s performance, showcasing the fruits of a recent duo recording project.
