Lavinia Blackwall & Stilton + Jude Norton-Smith + Cortnë
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
Lavinia Blackwall is well known for her previous work in Trembling Bells, who released seven albums, all met with critical acclaim. She has also worked as a performer and arranger with Nick Garrie, Kaleidoscope, Mike Heron and Bonnie Prince Billy. Her debut album ‘Muggington Lane End’ was universally well received, earning excellent reviews from publications as diverse as Rolling Stone France, Shindig!, RnR, The Financial Times, Uncut, Moof Mag, The Scotsman, and online editions, Backseat Mafia, Spectrum Culture, and Line Of Best Fit.
Her new solo material is a rich tapestry of lyrical melodies and beautifully arranged song smithery ably accompanied by ‘Stilton’ the talents of Marco Rea (The Wellgreen, Euros Childs) Jim McGoldrick (The Wellgreen) and Seb Jonsen (Helicon and The Tomorrow Syndicate).
Jude Norton-Smith is exploring the boundaries and layers of what folk music can mean for our times today. Weaver together asymmetrical original material alongside time traveled renditions of traditional songs, Jude’s unique sound touches upon ecology, queerness, and the strange ways of living and being in the 21st century. Often joined by a fun(gal) cohort of like-minded musicians, no two gigs are often the same as Jude’s technicolour folk sound boundlessly bubbles up from below.
Cortnë is an authentic young alt-pop singer songwriter from Glasgow’s Southside, drawing inspiration from past relationships, feminism and religious imagery. It’s easy to see why she’s been championed by BBC Rapal, Amazing Radio, New Found Sound, Sofar Sounds, Camglen Radio and Celtic Music Radio.
The young artist has established herself through an array of performances such as; Youth Beatz supporting Sigala, the famous King Tuts supporting The Sisterhood (one half of which is Rod Stewarts daughter - Ruby Stewart), The Poetry Club supporting Lauran Hibberd, Kelvingrove Bandstand and the first ever Dundee Pride. She has played across Scotland with gigs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Dundee and Dumfries - gigging internationally in Joensuu, Finland.
Cortnë kicked off 2023 by playing two sold out shows one at Celtic Connections supporting Carol Laula and Yvone Lyons and another in Belfast supporting Mima Merrow, after taking some time away to work on her debut EP wiith the first single set to be released in Spring.
