Celtic Connections: Malcolm MacWatt + Scott Ashworth
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
Scottish musician Malcolm MacWatt is a unique voice in British Folk/Americana with the likes of Gretchen Peters, Eliza Carthy and Kris Drever lending their names and voices to his recent work.
Hailing from Morayshire with the Highlands as a constant backdrop, MacWatt professes a lifelong love of American music and culture while being steeped in the folklore and music of Scotland. Before moving to London in 2010 he worked on the North Sea offshore oil rigs and later as a newspaper journalist. As such there’s sensitivity, compassion and humanity in his songwriting with a rugged simplicity in how they are delivered. Between recording sessions for his next album Dark Harvest, due out in spring, he opened for Jackie Oates, Nathan Bell, Lynn Hanson, Findlay Napier and Martin Simpson amongst others.
“Brilliant … a wonderful celebration of the magic of song.. a strong Celtic sweep to it” (Ralph McLean, BBC Radio Ulster)
