Santa Sprees
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
The Anglo-Japanese band Santa Sprees have been advancing the art of unpopular song since 1994. Making questionable progress from the low-skilled, no-fidelity, no wave of their earliest cassettes to the largely futile primitive avant bubblegum of today, releasing ten collections to date on a trail of defunct labels and media.
Support from GIO super-group!
Jessica Argo/ Rose Dagul/ Elena Inei/ Una MacGlone/ Jer Reid / Luke Sutherland
This group are playing for the first time although many different clusters and configurations of the group have played together a lot. Most of the group met in the fertile ground of the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra. Although Luke and Jer have done stuff together for over twenty years like playing in dance theatre shows and improvising as a duo for eight hours at a time in Copenhagen, Barcelona, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
The GIO folks have done lots of exciting things together like jamming with Marshall Allen and Henry Grimes, sharing a stage with the Instant Composers Pool etc etc etc. And individually they have all been busy working in orchestras, bands, to film, with poets, teaching of all sorts etc etc in the Glasgow music ecology.
Rose is new to Glasgow and we met her at GIO’s monthly open session also at The Glad Cafe called GIOdynamics. Rose says she makes pop songs, drawings, performance art, videos and compositions. She often collaborates with other musicians and artists on generative projects that explore the ephemeral and friendship. She is a member of the improv collective 'Rutger Hauser' and is a co-founder of the DIY platform 'The Surround'. So she is adding an exciting bunch of new threads to the Glasgow experimental music web.
