Crossmyloof Bread Festival
Welcome to the Crossmyloof Bread Festival; celebrating the generosity and progressive thinking of Neale Thomson and his family.
The Glad Cafe is situated where the original Crossmyloof Bakery once stood. Established in 1840 by Neale Thomson of Camphill, this local philanthropist undertook not only to provide local workers with nutritious and affordable bread, but also to improve their working conditions and rights.
FULL PROGRAMME:
10:30am: Register your loaf for the inaugural 'Best Home-Baked Sourdough Loaf' Southside Bake-off to be judged by Patrick Harvie MSP. Adult and Kids categories Official Opening by Patrick Harvie (Local MSP/bread enthusiast!) and the Glad Samba Band
11am: Children's Soda Bread Making workshop (Green Room)
11:30am: 'From Chorleywood to Soordough: A Bread Journey' - Catriona Milligan established the High Rise Bakers in the Gorbals, and will give us a sourdough demonstration and a fascinating insight into the evils of 'Chorleywood Bread'
12:15pm: The Barrow Band, playing and singing the finest selection of fruit and veg songs ever written!
12:40pm: Talk - Andrew Whitley, Executive Chairman of Scotland the Bread, founder of Village Bakery, the Real Bread Campaign, best-selling author of 'DO Sourdough', and Bread Matters
1:20pm: The wonderful Glad Samba Band return for a musical interlude
1:40pm: 'Best Home-Baked Sourdough Loaf' competition winners announced
2pm: More 'folk-botanico-encyclopedic' entertainment from The Barrow Band
2:30pm: Mrs. Mash the Storytelling Cook - bread themed tales, songs and joining-in fun for all the family
2:30pm: Film Screening - Zev Robinson's, 'Real Bread Bakers', looking at how bread-making, sourdough, local food, nutrition, and a sense of community are all closely intertwined. 28mins
