BHAJAN BHOY is Ajay Saggar. He released his debut solo album “Bless Bless” on 5 June 2020 which was met with unprecedented universal praise from the music press and received widespread airplay from radio stations in the USA (WFMU) to the UK (Steve Barker’s “On The Wire” and BBC 6 Music) to Australia (Eastside FM).
“a gloriously blissed out set” (The Wire / August 2020)
“ a great, deeply energising record” (The Quietus / June 2020)
“as contemporary deep psych trips go this is seriously potent gear - the perfect soundtrack for invoking the messianic spirit of Timothy Leary” (Shindig / July 2020)
“fascinating guitar mantras” (Lust For Life / June 2020)
“superb meditative collection” (Narc / June 2020)
“J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) said it was a “killer album”. I bow to that accordingly” (OOR / June 2020)
“music as a healing force, enlightenment through a a musical craft that keeps giving. This album is an absolute grower” (enola.be / June 2020)
“Bless Bless” is a beautiful album filled with kosmische guitar psych magick / sonic raga trips / melodic mantras / esoteric electronica that thrill and elevate the listener to a higher sonic plain. The music is indebted to fellow kosmische cosmonauts such as Popol Vuh, Albert Ayler and Terry Riley. In November 2021 he released an EP titled “That Summer Oh Creator!” taking Saggar’s sonic explorations into even deeper territory. Yes the kosmische psych guitar touches are there, but the 2 beautiful songs are enhanced by pastoral electronica and dynamic field recordings. Since June 2020, Bhajan Bhoy has performed countless shows (under Covid restrictions) from Groningen to Rotterdam. In August he was asked by The Notwist to open for them in Koln for an open air show for 1000 people. In November he opened for 2 shows at Paradiso, Amsterdam for the Thurston Moore Group, at the request of Thurston.
