7.00 in advance / 9.00 on the door

Working with DIY electronics, found objects, light and sound making circuits, Tim Shaw and Dirty Electronics consider the musical potential of everyday materials and surroundings. Points of Failure is a series of collaborative performance-installations in which they explore the making and unmaking of objects, mechanisms and materials, light and sound. Using bells, air horns, sound synths, water, self made stringed instruments, light bulbs, loudspeakers, bass shakers and other miscellaneous devices, the duo will navigate a shared sound environment through performance, process and action. Tim Shaw and Dirty Electronics have recently presented collaborative work at Onassis Cultural Centre (Athens), Arnolfini (Bristol), Centrala (Birmingham) and Northern Charter (Newcastle).

John Richards explores the idea of Dirty Electronics that focuses on shared experiences, ritual, gesture, touch and social interaction. He is primarily concerned with the performance of large-group electronic music and DIY electronics, and the idea of creating music inside electronics. His work also pushes the boundaries between performance art, electronics, and graphic design. Dirty Electronics has been commissioned to create sound devices for various arts organisations and festivals and has released a series of hand-held synths on Mute Records. https://www.dirtyelectronics.org

Tim Shaw is an artist working with sound, light and communication media. Presenting work through musical performances, installations and sound walks Tim is interested in how listening environments can be constructed or explored using a diverse range of techniques and technologies. He works with field recordings, electronics, video, modular synthesis, sound objects, self-made hardware and DIY software. Tim Shaw has been lucky enough to work with Chris Watson, Phill Niblock, John Bowers, Tetsuya Umeda, Tess Denman-Cleaver, Jacek Smolicki and Sébastien Piquemal. https://tim-shaw.net/

Ewa Justka is unemployed, lives in Glasgow, builds synthesizers and plays rhythmic bangers (minimum of 200 bpm) at the moment she is also doing PhD in Edinburgh College of Arts but she also got a loan from the bank and she can't afford to pay her rent ;--( She played on a few pretentious festivals in Europe and Asia and somewhere, including Unsound, Unpolished, Sonic Acts, MUTEK, and somewhere else.

This tour is kindly supported by Arts Council England and was developed in partnership with Brazilian partners Novas Frequencias and Silo – Art and Rural Latitude.
