Rachel Newton is a singer, harpist, and multi-instrumentalist. Specialising in the reinterpretation of traditional folk ballads in both English and Scottish Gaelic alongside her own compositions, her music has been described as ‘the sound of modern Scotland’ in The Herald, ‘Haunting and compelling’ by The Guardian and ‘a beauty’ by the Observer. Rachel was named BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Musician of the Year 2017, Scots Trad Music Awards Instrumentalist of the Year 2016 and her third album Here’s My Heart Come Take It was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award 2017. A prolific collaborator alongside her work as a soloist, Rachel performs with The Furrow Collective, The Shee and The Lost Words: Spell Songs.
