Celtic Connections & Fallen Angels Club: Peter Brutnell + Mally Smith
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
If you ask the likes of Peter Buck (REM), Scott McCaughey (REM, Minus 5), Willy Vlautin (Richmond Fontaine), Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo), John Murry, or Kathleen Edwards they’ll all tell you that Peter Bruntnell is a writer with rare and mysterious qualities. Peter has a unique ‘way with a tune’ and the most interesting thing about his music - and part of the reason for his devoted following - is the indefinable knack the songs have of locking into one’s emotions in an elusive, intangible but deeply affecting way.
Off the back of a well-received set at BBC Scotland’s “Quay Sessions with Roddy Hart”, a session and interview for “Another Country with Ricky Ross”, and several sold out trio shows throughout 2017 and 2018, Peter is delighted and honoured to announce a special Celtic Connections 2020 show with a line-up comprising himself on acoustic guitar, harmonica, and vocals, Danny Williams (The Rails, Robert Vincent, Black Grape) on double bass, and Iain Sloan (of The Wynntown Marshals and Blue Rose Code) on pedal steel, guitar, and backing vocals. The setlist for this show will feature songs from Peter’s critically-acclaimed 2019 release “King of Madrid”, as well as some fan favourites from his extensive back catalogue.
