We're delighted to welcome Newcastle three-piece, ARCHIPELAGO to The Glad Cafe for the first time!

Archipelago take audiences on a journey through chaos, freedom, joy and darkness, fusing jazz, cinematic improvisation, alt-rock and experimental pop.

Fronted by composer & saxophonist/clarinetist/vocalist Faye MacCalman and completed by John Pope (Bass/FX) and Christian Alderson (Drums/Percussion), Archipelago are an innovative product of the North East of England’s fertile new music scene.

Inspired by Joni Mitchell, Don Cherry & PJ Harvey, Archipelago create tidal waves of sound that change rapidly from one song to the next, moving between instruments and electronic effects that create illusions of several musicians before peeling back to their trio form.

Archipelago are supported by BBC Introducing and were selected as a highlight from Latitude Festival 2019 for Tom Robinson’s BBC6 Music show, described as a ‘truly remarkable unit’ by NARC Magazine and ‘A shape-shifting sound’ - Kevin Le Gendre.

Since releasing their debut album ‘Weightless’ in 2017 Archipelago have played extensively across the UK, demonstrating their boundary pushing ethos doesn’t just exist within their sound as they take to stages ranging from jazz festivals, to indie rock all dayers, to tiny DIY spaces. In 2018 with the support of Help Musicians UK they created and ran ‘BETWEEN WAVES’, a residency-gig series for female-identifying artists to make new music with Archipelago.

In their uncompromising inability to fit into one genre, Archipelago create an unforgettable musical experience.

‘Vibe all of its own. Listen!’ - Steve Lawson.

Dome Riders are Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh, Fritz Welch, Mike Parr-Burman and Armin Sturm. Monocellular entities interfuse and disperse into the cracks between the things, engaging in impromptu canticles of symbiotic nature, either friendly or parasitic.
