Sam Lewis + Jake Morrell
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
After being one of the stand out acts at Glasgow Americana in 2015, we are delighted to welcome Sam Lewis back to Glasgow for his own headline show.
With rich soulful vocals, well crafted songs, roots country and blue eyed soul Sam Lewis is connecting the dots. Whether crossing genres or state lines, he has pieced together a story people need to hear.
Music was one of the few constants in Sam’s life. His family never stayed anywhere for long, which meant that friendships were forged between himself and the music he absorbed, from Roy Orbison to Van Morrison to Willie Nelson. The influence of Ray Charles can be felt from the first note to the last beat, making Sam’s debut a complimentary companion to Charles’ own, two volume Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. Leaving home as soon as the opportunity arrived, Sam landed in Knoxville, and later Nashville.
Sam’s latest album Loversity is gathering rave reviews, with Rolling Stone Magazine naming him in the “top ten acts to watch this year”.
“Though Lewis has released two excellent LPs, it’s his forthcoming album, Loversity, that might prove to be his breakout moment: everything is a little deeper, a little darker and jams a little longer. And he’s taking a closer look at a country in peril, written with an empath’s heart.” Rolling Stone
Jake Morrell could have come straight out of Nashville, or even from the Californian sunshine, as his music suggests; but Jake is from Norfolk, England!
Jake was ‘discovered’ by Dermot O’Leary, who featured him on his Radio 2 Show. One influential listener just so happened to be Glastonbury boss Emily Eavis, who immediately asked Jake to perform at the iconic festival.
